While boards of the past have worked to keep our tax rate low, we need to make sure we are also keeping our spending in check. We must focus on the needs of the town, not the wants, especially in our current economic climate. Seeking to spend 15-20 million dollars on a new town hall or trying to give ourselves a raise is bad planning . We must address what will impact our community the most such as finishing road projects, completing greenways and expanding our first responders infrastructure needs.
We have watched as members of our current board vote to reduce the time a for individuals or groups who are passionate about an issue and dismiss their concerns. I believe in giving each individual their allotted time, regardless of how long a meeting will last. We are are here to listen and serve the community. Everyone's voice should be heard.
Our town continues to grow, but we need leadership who can find the balance in property rights of land owners and excessive rezoning requests for more homes. Until our infrastructure needs are met we should not be approving so many requests. We need to make sure our current citizens needs are met before adding more neighborhoods and developments.
I have been extremely disappointed at our current leaderships actions not only for continuing to ignoring our OM cluster but for the major gas spill in our town. As someone who has done a great deal of work on trying to find the culprit of our OM cases and also serving on the board whose goal was to get answers to our citizens its been extremely hard to sit back and not be able to assist our community. The people of Huntersville need and deserve a Commissioner who will fight for a better reaction from our state to clean up our town, leaving a better Huntersville for our children.
The men and women who put on these uniforms every day, deserve the backing of a town for equipment and training. I want to make sure we continue supplying them with both. We also need to make sure we are competitive with other municipalities, so we are able to hire and keep the best of the best.
Whether it is a small or large company, they are important to our sustainability as a town to help maintain a low and balanced tax rate. These companies and their employees deserve a Commissioner to work on their behalf, to give them the best opportunity for success.
